In Memory of
Helen M. Jones
Helen M. Jones of Mount
Holly Springs, PA died March 31st, 2004 in Kinkora Pythian Home,
Duncannon at the age of 87. Helen was born on September 1, 1916, the
seventh child of Jose and Walter McClenahen of Middleburg, PA.
She managed her husband’s, Richard J. Jones, theaters when he left
to fight in World War II and became one of the country’s first
licensed female projectionists. When her husband Richard returned
from the war, they both planned and built a new form of
entertainment, The Silver Springs Drive-In theater in Mechanicsburg.
After Silver Springs Drive-In was finished being built in 1949, it
was only the second of its kind in the United States.
Creative, unconventional and dynamic, Helen lived a full and
productive life. She traveled all over the world and enjoyed living
many years in Mexico.
She will be sadly missed by her two children, Dan Jones of
Mechanicsburg and Penny Souza of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Along with
her two children, she also has six grandchildren and three great
grandchildren.
The family has decided not to have public services. Condolences and
celebrated memories of her life may be sent to
hmj@PAnetwork.com Instead of flowers, donations may
be made in memory of Helen to Unicef or the World Wildlife
Federation.
Thanks for
Coming to Drive-In Network, created by Silver Springs Drive-In!
